Introduction

Who are we?

It is not easy to introduce ourselves, first and foremost because we are a large team spread out in more than 40 countries around the world. We share our life as brothers, while our work knows no limits.

St. Augustine, whose ideal we follow, always wanted to live a community life with some friends. Collectively, they used to study the Word of God, pray, work and share every single moment of their day. When Augustine was called to give his service to the church as a priest and later as a bishop, he continued to adopt this style of life while at the same time, serving the church.

When Pope Innocent IV united the many hermits, who lived the Rule of St. Augustine and set up the Augustinian Order, he wanted them to continue living the Augustinian ideal through the common life while giving themselves to the evangelisation in every part of the church, according to its needs. This is the reason why we Augustinians work in schools, parishes, retreat houses, youth centres and also in mission lands. Following the spirit of St. Augustine, whom we consider as our spiritual father, we try to give a service whenever and wherever the church needs us.

We all do this strengthened by the communal life which we adopt upon joining the order. The Augustinian is called to share every day his life with his brothers, who form part of his community. Everyday, we share moments of prayer, the Eucharist, work, food and why not, even moments of recreation. We all live this in the spirit of the first Christians of Jerusalem where nobody considered a particular thing to be his but where everything was used for the common good.
