Sapientiae Pulchritudo

The Augustinian Community in Rabat, with the help of Ms. Jessica Borg BA (Hons) History of Art, are organizing a collective art exhibition with a spiritual inspiration. The exhibition is named SAPIENTIAE PULCHRITUDO art & spirituality in the cloister. The theme is inspired from the words of St Augustine: “The beauty of truth and wisdom … does not pass with time, nor move from place to place. Night does not interrupt it, nor darkness hide it, and it is not subject to bodily sense. It is close to all its lovers throughout the world who turns towards it… It is in no place, yet nowhere is it absent; from without it admonishes us, within it instructs us. It changes all its beholders for the better; it is itself never changed for the worse. No one is its judge; without it no one judges rightly…” (De libero arbitro, Liber II, 14, 38). Therefore, the architectural and monastic structure of the cloister in the Augustinian monastery in Rabat (17th century) is the suitable space for various artists to expose their search of beauty, through the art they created, and which at times provoke the human spirit.

In this exhibition, the following well-known artists will be taken part: FABIO BORG, ANTON AGIUS, JESSICA DEBATTISTA, ANTHONY SPAGNOL, LINO BORG, JOHN MARTIN BORG, GORG FENECH, NOEL ATTARD, GILBERT FENECH, PIERRE BUGEJA, MARK SAGONA, PATRICK DALLI, JOE SCERRI. These artists will show their works of art in the spiritual human struggle in his search for the True Beauty. This activity will be linked with the Lejl Pawl which the Maltese Archdiocese is organizing with other institutions in Rabat and Mdina. The opening hours are: Wednesday 25 till Sunday 29 June from 9am to 12pm and from 4pm to 8pm. Saturday 28 June, on the occasion of the Lejl Pawl, the exhibition will remain open till midnight. Entrance is free and everyone is invited to attend.
