The Augustinian journey of formation continues in Escorial
After two years in formation as a prenovice, David Cortis left Malta on 30th August 2008, to start his novitiate year. David joined the Augustinian Order on 13th July 2006, after undergoing a number of experiences in the Augustinian Formation House at Rabat, Malta. There, he continued to cultivate his call from God and on 10th October 2006, the ceremony of acceptance took place. Some months ago, David Cortis was accepted to undergo the novitiate year, in Escorial in Spain, together with other Augustinian students from Spain and Portugal. This special year of formation, started with a ceremony, known as vestiture, where the youth receives the Augustinian habit (tunic) and the cincture. During this year, no academic study is done as the formation is centred on spiritual life (interiority), getting a deeper knowledge of Jesus Christ and the Word of God, through prayer and in strengthening one’s love towards Mary, Our Mother. St. Augustine, our father is studied more deeply especially as with regards to his writings and the Rule, which he left for those who opt to live this style of life, as modelled by him. The history, spirituality and the Constitutions of the Augustinian Order, on which our everyday life is modelled, are also studied.
The Maltese Augustinian Province shows gratitude for David’s call and for the many students who embrace the Augustinian Order and while it promises to keep praying, it encourages more youths so that like David, they also offer themselves to God by living in a community and help the Church in its needs.
