National Competition
The Augustinian Province in Malta is organising a national competition for those who in some form or another are showing solidarity with person/s in need. The award is named after St. Nicholas of Tolentino, an Augustinian saint, who is considered as the model of solidarity. The historians, who wrote about him, tell us that apart from the long periods he spent praying, he cheered the distressed, comforted the sad, acted as mediator during conflicts, supported the weak, helped the poor and released the slaves.
Rules The competition is open to people who are between 15 and 45 years old and who in some way are performing acts of solidarity with someone who is in need. Private persons, parish priests, mayors, or local councillors, school headmasters, leaders of religious, sportive, cultural and social groups, can nominate anyone, who they consider to deserve this reward.
The selecting committee has the right to short list the nominees, if the need arises. Those who are short listed (if this takes place) will be called for an interview by the electing committee or by the jury. The winner of the competition, will be announced in a ceremony in St. Nicholas’ Hall, Hal Tarxien on 1st November 2008 at 7.30pm and will be given 500 euros and a trophy as an award.
To nominate someone for the award, one has to fill in the application, issued by the organising committee and send it by not later than the end of September. For more information, contact Fr. Franco Grech OSA on 21828017.
