FAQ

What expenses are involved?

The youths who decide to make this seven week experience in Brazil do so on a voluntary basis. This means that the expenses involved are all paid by the individual. These include travelling expenses, the vaccinations taken in Malta and the insurance policy.

What type of prevention does one have to take?

It isn't obligatory for someone to be vaccinated against an illness. The Secretariat recommends all those who are undergoing the experience in Brazil to contact the National Immunisation Services at the Floriana Health Centre. The insurance is also not obligatory. This can be done on an individual basis, however, throughout these past years, the participants of each group have always decided to insure themselves as a group.

How long do we stay in the missions?

In all, the group stays for seven weeks in Brazil. The Maltese youths leave for the missions, in the second week of July and remain there till the end of August.

What happens throughout the 7 weeks the Maltese groups spends in Brazil?

During this time, the group works in three different parishes, all run by the Maltese Augustinian religious missionaries. These places are Rolandia and Jaguapita, which are situated in the state of Parana and the city of São Paulo, situated in the state of São Paulo. The activity is mainly focused on street children and their families, who live in slums. During the day, these children meet in centres and they spend the day there playing, singing, dancing, laughing and joking with the Maltese group. Thus, they will be kept away from bad habits and their difficulties reduced.

How can I help in the missionary activity?

• The best thing a benefactor can do is to pray for the Augustinian missions, as well as for the missionaries so that the Lord will continue giving them strength, courage, hope and whatever they need to continue with their activities in a difficult environment and away from home.
• Another good act is to volonteer to participate in this experience with poor families and children in Brazil.
• One can help financially. Without the financial aid of many benefactors, the help we give poor families in mission lands, will not be possible. One can help by making a deposit in the following Bank of Valletta account number: 40010188817.
• One can send a cheque, payable to “Segretarjat Missjonijiet Agostinjani” to the address written below.
• By SMSing on 50617355 (€2.66) or 50616124 (€1.16)
