Who are we?
The Augustinian brothers
We the Maltese Augustinian brothers form part of a big team, spread throughout more than 40 countries around the world. We share our life together, as brothers, yet our activities are diverse.
St. Augustine, whose ideals we follow, for ever wanted to live a communitarian life together with some friends. They used to read the Word of God, pray, work and share their day together. Many years after St. Augustine established his communities, in 1244, Pope Innocence IV gathered many communities of hermits in Italy, from which he founded the Augustinian Order: he wanted them to live the iideals of St. Augustine by means of the communitarian life and the rule Augustine wrote, while giving themselves to the spreading of the Word wherever the need arose.
In short, this encompasses our ideal: to be 'one heart and one soul in God' by sharing daily everyday moments of prayer, the Eucharist, our work, food and leisure. This, we live in the spirit of the first Christians of Jersualem, where nobody considered anything to be his but everything was shared by everybody.
